Alex Job Racing finished third at the final round of the American Le Mans Series last Saturday evening with 150 plus Bell Micro guests on hand for the season finale. Paul Thatcher from BroadWare Technologies sums up the day, “The hospitality was great, the weather was fantastic, and the podium placing by the team was a nice finish for a most enjoyable day.”
Martin Bringuel with Trimble Navigation writes “I just wanted to say thanks again, we had a wonderful time, Bell Micro really knows how to take care of their customers.”
Mike Rockenfeller started the #23/Alex Job Racing/Bell Microproducts/Porsche 996 from the front row after an excellent qualifying effort Friday. The young German would pass the pole sitting Ferrari into turn one only to be hit two laps later by the same car, forcing him into the sixth position. By lap eight Mike would work his way back to second and then assume the lead on lap 62. Rockenfeller turned the Bell Microproducts Porsche over to Marcel Tiemann on lap 65. Tiemann was able to gap the second place Ferrari by nine-seconds. On the restart of the 3rd caution period, Tiemann would come in contact with a P1 and GT2 car going into turn six, the incident sent Marcel to the pits for a tire change. Rockenfeller would complete the race in third place.
“Our terrible luck continued right up to the last race,“ said Alex Job, team owner. “We missed two stops under yellow by just one lap. Marcel had contact on the restart and that caused us to stop under green. The yellow came out the next lap and the two cars that finished ahead of us were able to pit under that caution, putting us back nearly 40-seconds and that was our day. Again, we had the car to run to the front and lead the race and contact halted our chance for a win, frustrating.”
