The team at Alex Job Racing was back on the track this Holiday weekend for the 4th round of the American Le Mans Series. After a month off AJR headed north to Lime Rock, Connecticut and the 1.54 mile road track. Klaus Graf would post a qualifying time of 54.127 seconds on the short bumpy track placing the car in 6th place on the starting grid. As a result of changing tires following qualifying, Klaus Graf had to start the #23 Alex Job Racing/Bell Microproducts/Porsche from the last row of the grid. Klaus would work his way through the GT2 field to third position in the class by lap 48 only to be hit by the 51 Panoz car on lap 50. “I had a good car, I was able to move-up through the field and make my way up to third from starting last. I had a run on the BMW into turn one and went a little wide. I was not way off the line and then I was hit by the Panoz. I thought it was way too early in the race for him to be making that optimistic of a move. It was disappointing we were really coming on at that point” said Graf.
The Alex Job Racing crew would change the entire right rear suspension assembly and would return the car to the track in time to make the 70% distance requirement to score points. “We looked really good for the first hour of the race,” said Alex Job. “Lime Rock is a short track and it takes a little bit of give and take by the competitors to run a clean race. We were hit from behind and sustained all of the damage. The number 51 was able to continue and we had a repair that cost us 18 laps. We have two races now that have really impacted our season. The GT2 class is competitive and no one seems to be putting together a perfect season. The GT2 has had four different winners in as many races. We still will need to come to the remaining races looking to win, with a goal of being the first GT2 repeat winner.
Round #5 of the American Le Mans Series will take place at Miller Motorsports Park in Salt Lake City on Saturday, July 15th. Results to date for AJR Racing, Sebring, 6th place finish, Houston, 1st place finish, Mid-Ohio, DNS (Did Not Start).
Bell Micro Racing will host its next Relationship Sales Event at the San Jose Grand Prix on Sunday July 30th.
