about Don Bell

Don Bell began racing professionally in 1981 as a competitor in the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) Series driving Camaros, Firebirds, Porsches, Buicks and more. In 1984 he graduated to IMSA’s prestigious GTP class of prototype sports cars driving a Buick powered Argo chassis. Bell competed in the GTP series in 1984, 1985 and 1986 winning the prestigious Miami Grand Prix that year. In 1987 Bell would move to the Camel Lights series driving the #01 AT & T Pontiac/Spice car.

Bell won six of the sixteen races including the 24 Hours of Daytona, Road Atlanta, Riverside, Mid-Ohio, San Antonio and Laguna Seca; he would also finish in second place twice. Bell had thirteen top-10 finishes and ended the season in second place in the driver championship. Bell enjoyed his best season in IMSA, helping Pontiac win the manufacturer’s championship, sharing honors of winning the most races of all Camel GT competitors.

In 1993 Bell began competing in the World Sports Car Series. He drove several WSC prototype cars for several teams including Chevrolet/Spice and Kudzus. Driving for Andy Evan’s Scandia Team at the 24 Hours of Daytona, teamed with Fermin Velez and Andreas Fuchs, the team captured a third place win.

Bell was active in 2002, 2003 and 2004 in European SuperSports Cup Series for CAN-AM type cars driving a 8.3 liter 900 hp Lola T163 at tracks including Brands Hatch, Dijon, Spa, Imola, Greenwood and Nurburgring. He also drove his original Porsche and Corvettes in several vintage car races. Bell continued to compete in the professional Grand Am series in 2004 as we.

In 2005 and 2006 Bell would race in several IMSA GT3 Cup Challenges piloting a new 996 Porsche in ‘05 and a new 997 in ’06. Most recently, January 2007, Bell would compete in the prestigious Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona in the GT class driving a new 997 GT3 Cup car.

Bell holds an FIA Grade A International Racing license. He is a well known professional both on and off the track.
