Founded in 1999 by entrepreneur Don Panoz, the American Le Mans Series is a series of sports car endurance racing events patterned after the world-famous 24 Hours of Le Mans. American Le Mans Series events feature multi-class racing among the top sports car racing drivers and teams in the world.
The World’s longest running racing series; The American National Championship began in 1909 and has had only four governing bodies; AAA (1909), USAC (1959-1979), CART (1979-2003) and Champ Car (2004 to present). As in 1909, the series still runs on a variety of tracks including natural terrain road courses, street courses, ovals and super-speedways.
Don Bell began racing professionally in 1981 as a competitor in the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) Series driving Camaros, Firebirds, Porsches, Buicks and more. In 1984 he graduated to IMSA’s prestigious GTP class of prototype sports cars driving a Buick powered Argo chassis.
